For Immediate Release Summer Group Exhibition, July 3-31, 2010 Gelabert Studio Gallery is proud to present the gallery’s first Summer Group Exhibition, featuring the latest paintings of Dawn Arena, Janick Laberge, Glenn Murgacz and Farzin Nikzad, as well as sculptures by Albert Feraud, Roberto Recio and Theresa Rogers and collages by Gitou Knoop. Dawn Arena is returning to the gallery for the third time. Working in a variety of mediums all from unusual and exciting organic materials, which are incorporated both in her paintings and sculptures, she is presenting two outstanding masks-like sculptures. Collaborating for this show with Dawn Arena, Glenn Murgacz, who has created many outdoor sculptures throughout his career, is exhibiting his most recent work, which is a dancing couple, created from steal and copper. Janick Laberge is a French Canadian artist, working with a colorful pallet to create shapes, which appears to be initially abstract, but after a closer look, they are in fact organic, referencing elements of the human body. Farzin Nikzad is a Belgium born painter of Persian descent, who received formal training in American Art Schools. Initially interested in illustration, he increasingly moved to painting, keeping patterns as an essential part of his art making. His painting is composed of unique motifs, appropriated from his culture and imagination and which often take the shape of a puzzle that will dazzle any trained eye. The Summer group exhibition is Theresa Rogers’s New York debut. Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, from Guatemalan parents, she is an art teacher trained both as a sculpture and as a painter. For this show she is presenting a stunning ceramic Venetian-like mask with a bronze spider ornament, as well as a remarkable bronze dancer. Also on view are two rare sculptures by Albert Feraud, a great contributor to the art of the 20thcentury. These two sculptures show his impressive range, as he moves from the organic and the loose to the geometric and the structured. Roberto Recio is another sculptor in this show, who represents nature by creating aluminum nature morte on a pedestal. Gitou Knoop is an artist originally from The Netherlands, who created countless paintings and sculptures throughout her career. This show presents a selection of three outstanding, colorful and vibrant collages, varying in size and shapes. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday, 2-7 PM.
